If you love wine like I do, there are few things that excite me more at a restaurant than an extensive wine list. Not only does the Wijnhuis Wine Bar & Grill in Newlands have 500 wines available by the bottle, but they have taken it a step further with their selection of 20 wines available by the glass, carafe or tasting portion which they change on a regular basis.
Although you can taste any of the 20 wines on that list, there is an option to taste 5 curated wines for R50. I chose this option and was blown away by the carefully selected variety that lead seamlessly into one another as I progressed through the tasting. With this option I tasted the De Meye Chenin Blanc, the Ernst & Co ‘Nineteenfiftytwo’ Blend of Sauvingon Blanc and Semillon, the Meerlust Chardonnay, the KWV ‘Classic Collection’ Petit Verdot, the Doolhof Malbec and the Kaapzicht Shiraz. We also ordered some of the Bruschetta as a snack which were fresh and delicious and are served four in a portion.
I love coming here in the late afternoon because the light streams through the restaurant’s many windows making the day feel just that little bit longer, brighter and warmer. I also love that the way entrance is filled with floor to ceiling framed logos our South African wineries.
There is ample parking in the two parking lots across the road, or in the street. Read more about Wijnhuis Wine Bar & Grill here.
